4 in 10 tech jobs still won't tell you the pay
October 5, 2026 · Numbers update daily from open job listings
Scout reads 61,411 open roles at 1,285 companies, straight from their own job boards. Most say what the job pays. A lot still don't.
Engineering does a little better
Roles with engineer or developer in the title post pay 64% of the time. Everything else: 57%. Several US states now require a range in job listings, which is part of why. It's not universal yet.
Who posts pay, by kind of role
Companies that post pay on every open role
Among companies with 30 or more open roles, these post a range on every single one: Fluidstack, Mach Industries, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, 1X, Inversion Space, Polymarket, Suno, Illumio, Ashby, NexHealth, Exa, Reliable Robotics, and 23 more.
Why it matters
A listing without pay costs everyone time: you apply, interview, and learn the number at the end. Scout shows pay on every role that posts it, and every role a company opens on Scout has to include a range.
