How to build a profile people follow

Lead with what you're doing now and what you've shipped, with numbers, so people remember your work instead of your keywords.

One line about now

“Rebuilding payouts so merchants get paid the same day” says more than a title. Write what you're working on and why it matters, in plain words.

Show what you shipped

Pick two or three pieces of work you're proud of. For each: what it was, your part in it, and one number that shows the result (time saved, errors cut, users reached). Talks, writing and open source count.

  • Lead with the result, then the how.
  • One number per item beats five adjectives.
  • Link to it if it's public.

Keep your search separate

Your profile is for your work. Whether you're looking, and for what, is better kept private, so your current employer and network see your work, not a signal.

Post now and then

Short updates about real work (a launch, a lesson, a problem you solved) keep your profile current and give people a reason to follow.

Questions

What should a professional profile include?

What you're working on now in one line, two or three things you shipped with a number for each, and a short history.

Should my profile say I'm looking for a job?

You don't have to. Keeping your search private means your current employer and network see your work, not a signal.
